Freud 20-104 1/2 Inch Ogee Groove Plunge Router Bit
The Freud 20-104 is a 1/2-inch overall diameter ogee groove plunge router bit engineered to cut decorative S-curve profiles directly into the face or edge of cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and fluted architectural molding. Built with a 1/4-inch shank and plunge-cutting tip geometry, this tool executes smooth surface channels without tearing wood fibers. Tipped with TiCo™ Hi-Density Micrograin Carbide and protected by a heat-resistant Perma-SHIELD® non-stick coating, this 2-cutter bit operates at speeds up to 24,000 RPM across solid hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, and composites in CNC machines, handheld routers, or router tables.
Best Used For:
- Faux Raised Cabinet Door Grooving: Plunging decorative ogee panel grooves into flat MDF or solid wood cabinet doors using a CNC or template guide.
- Drawer Front & Fluted Molding Detailing: Cutting decorative surface channels and fluted accent lines across solid hardwood furniture components.
- Decorative Edge Profiling: Routing delicate ogee edge profiles along workpiece borders when paired with an edge fence or router table guide.
Key Performance & Safety Features
- Plunge-Cutting Tip Geometry: Designed for direct plunge entries into the face of stock to create clean decorative grooves and channels.
- TiCo™ Hi-Density Micrograin Carbide: Custom-formulated carbide tips offer exceptional wear resistance and maintain razor sharpness on abrasive wood materials.
- Perma-SHIELD® Non-Stick Coating: Protective red fluoropolymer coating resists pitch buildup, resin accumulation, and rust formation on the bit body.
- Computer-Balanced Anti-Vibration Design: Precision-balanced body geometry minimizes chatter and vibration for smooth cuts at high spindle speeds.
- Multi-Machine Compatibility: Engineered for stable, high-precision performance in CNC automatic routers, handheld routers, and table setups.
- Multi-Material Cutting Utility: Slices cleanly through solid hardwoods, softwoods, cabinet-grade plywood, MDF, and composite wood panels.

Pro-Tip: When routing deep ogee panel grooves in MDF or dense hardwoods, use a stepped plunge pass strategy by cutting half the total depth on the initial pass and making a light 1/16-inch final pass to produce a burn-free, glassy finish in the channel.
